Neko Chigura cat basket

Japanese handmade basket made of corn straw.

About 400 years ago, Japanese farmers placed their babies in specially made baskets. It usually didn't take long for the cats in the house to feel comfortable in the baskets. In the longer term, this 'double occupancy' was undesirable. ;-) The farmers then wove special baskets for their cats, which were no longer open at the top, but had a small entrance on the side - the so-called 猫ちぐら "Neko Chigura". (Japanese 'Neko' for cat, 'Chigura' for basket) To this day, these Neko chigura baskets are traditionally handmade for cats in Japan.

The Neko Chigura are artfully woven by rice farmers in winter, when there is nothing to do in the fields.

Cats absolutely love the cozy Neko Chigura baskets because such a basket is a safe place to retreat, but the large entrance opening allows the environment to be 'scanned' at any time. The natural insulation effect warms wonderfully in winter and cools in summer.

Each Neko Chigura cat bed comes with a beautiful reversible felt cushion in brown/grey.

The Lucky-Kitty Neko Chigura cat baskets are made entirely by hand, slight irregularities in shape and structure are an expression of this handicraft and not a defect. The natural material 'corn straw' may darken slightly over time.

The cat baskets are very stable, so that even a heavy cat can stand or sit on them and are large enough for a cat of 7-8 kilos. The bottom surface is approximately 45 x 45 cm. The entrance opening is approximately 20 x 12 cm. The height is approx. 38 cm.
